# Team Chemistry

> Benchmark how your team thinks, works and communicates.

Before Palantrix can tell you anything useful about your people, it needs to understand who you are as a team. Team Chemistry is a weighted fingerprint of how your team thinks, works and communicates, and it's the baseline every conversation is measured against.

It's the first thing to set up, because without it feedback has nothing to calibrate against.

### How it works

Invite your team from Settings. Each person answers a short set of questions, either in Palantrix or through a direct message in Slack or Microsoft Teams, whichever is easier for them. It takes about ten minutes.

Palantrix identifies 20 core traits from each person's answers. Individual results are combined into a single Team Chemistry signature for your organisation.

### Why it matters

Generic feedback tells someone they should have asked more questions. Feedback calibrated to your team tells them how their approach compares to what actually works in your organisation.

Once your Team Chemistry is built you can see what defines the team, where it is strong, and what strong contribution looks like in your context rather than against an industry average.

### What your team is told

Before anyone starts, they're told what the questions are for, what is collected and who can see the results. The set takes about ten minutes and can be completed in one sitting.

Team Chemistry describes the team as a whole. It isn't used to rank individuals or to inform decisions about pay, promotion or continued employment. See Compliance for the detail on what is held and on what basis.

### Keeping it current

<Tip>
  Teams change. New joiners can complete the questions when they start, and their results feed into the signature from then on. If your team has changed substantially, it's worth asking everyone to refresh their answers.

* Create your teams so you can see what strengths already exist in your teams and what areas there are for growth.
